INNOVATIONS

The best part about any quilting conference or convention is the getting together with old friends you haven't seen since ... well, since the last quilt show! Innovations 2008 lived up to all I hoped for as I got see old friends and make new ones. Even with a heavy teaching and taking class schedule I got to put lots more names with faces with all of our Statler Siblings.
I taught classes in AutoSketch (you'll see some new tutorials added to the Free Is Good section in the store)and my other classes dealt with design focusing on borders and working with different block combinations that come with our Statler machines. My Wholecloth class dealing with design and execution was helpful as we explored the use of two software packages (Electric Quilt and AutoSketch) to help in the design process. Good sharing of ideas spread around the table. It was most comforting to hear my favorite cotton sateen was a "problem fabric" for others. It's always good to know you're not the only one. I hate those words, "Operator Error."
I had fun being a teacher angel for Page Johnson in two of her classes ... Piece 'O Grid and Borders. By popular request from the class members, I've uploaded several point to point double heart patterns including the stitch in the ditch quilting. You can see what they look like by checking out the new scrolling slide show I added to the home page.
But the best part of the whole conference was my last class. I had an inspiration for a new class to offer last January when submitting my possibilities for classes and "OOPSIES" was born. Such wonderful ideas came from the whole group as we talked about those nightmares that terrorize us when we're quilting after midnight and the rest of the quilting world is asleep. We talked about "creepy borders," "thread trauma," and all kinds of quilty things that go "bump in the night." Everyone had a notepad and pencil handy and a story to tell. Thanks to everyone in the class who gave me a wonderful ending to another great quilting conference.
PS: Don't you just love the array of color in the hanging from the display by the High Cascade Quilters of Central Oregon!

I found your blog via your website via Statler Siblings. You gave me advice about my possibly overwinding bobbins for that "catch." I used the same bobbin in the new case. I tried other half wounds in the old and "catch" happens. Your website will be marked in my favorites to come back to time and time again.by Mary Flynn on 18 October 2008 at 2:14 p.m.
