    NEW CLASSES PART TWO

Posted by mountaintopquilting on Monday, March 30th, 2009

As promised, here is cotton candy kissesthe information about more piecing classes on my calendar. These classes will be held at Sharon's Attic in Hillsboro. First, I'll be teaching at Sharon and Steve's annual Spring Retreat this weekend. On Saturday afternoon and into the evening we'll be playing with curved patch piecing. You won't believe how simple curve patch piecing is once you try it the way I do it. You love how the patches just ease themselves right into place and yet your blocks stay nice and square.

The quilt is Cotton Candy Kisses and it is a great one for learning how to piece curves. You get to gather up all your scraps that are at least 6.5" square plus a background fabric; you'll learn how to make templates that will last and not get gradually slivered away; you'll learn how to cut templates easily and accurately using the little itty-bitty 18mm rotary cutter. And just for fun, I'm throwing in all the hints and tips for working with a pieced border accurately. There's still room to come and play with us at the retreat. Give Steve a call at 503-259-3Diamonds on the Double475.

DIAMONDS ON THE DOUBLE: This quilt is a little bit like a mystery quilt. Can you find the block? I'll give you a hint ... 4 block units go together to make one 8" block. With an on-point setting this quilt can easily be sized just riht for any bed in your house. Strip piecing and learning my way of over-sizing and squaring down the block unit makes piecing these quilt blocks you want to make more than one of these quilts.    (May 16th  11:00-5:00 Supply list is available at Sharon's Attic when you enroll in the class.)

    Twisting Ribbons

TWISTING RIBBONS: You will not believe how easily the effect of twisted ribbons can be achieved across the top ot the quilt as I show you how to piece the block using only two techniques: Strip Piecing and Sew-n-fold Corners.

What do you need to do? choose two fabrics for the ribbons - a light and a dark; choose a medium or contrast/coordinating fabric for the chain patches; and choose a background fabric. (June 20th 11:00-5:00 Supply list is available at Sharon's Attic when you enroll in the class.)

    See you in class!
