This is where you find me exploring a variety of creative adventures mostly about but not limited to quilting. I'm a firm believer that one increases their creativity by being open to and playing with a variety of cretative endeavors ... at least that my excuse for today. Enjoy your sourjourn through my studio playroom. May you find encouragement and inspiration, and on occassion, a little pin-prick that may be thought-provoking or spark your imagination. Thank you for stopping by.

    UNPLANNED VACATION

Posted by mountaintopquilting on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

A Rough LandingA Rough Landing ... is what happens when ... 95 pounds of dog bumps into you during that split-second you are airborn while running. We (our new dog and I) were out for a morning run the day after we got him. He left the house name Boris, and he came back with a new name ... Bruiser.

And thus began my unplanned forced vacation. In addition to the injury to my eyebrow bone (the wole point of impact) my right thumb was in a soft cast due to a hairline fracture or actual break. Do you know how hard it is to get around through the day without your right thumb when you are right handed? Oh my ... not recommended for the faint of heart.

God Bless the friends who are there for you in your time of need ...

My dear friend Nancy came to babysit me the first day after. We feasted on fresh strawberries with chocolate pudding while we watched movies. Her job was to make sure I didn't have any weird complications from my head injury ... and ... to open the chocolate pudding.

The next day my dear friend and hairdresser DeeDee came to rescue me after I called and begged her to make a house call in exchange for help with the new photo-editing software I talked her into buying so we could do digital scrapbooking together. Thanks to DeeDee for my clean hair and new "du." It was just a little rough to wash my hair with a casted hand bound up in a plastic bag.

All of this happened mid-May. I have since gone through cast removal progressing to a splint. I have learned to (but don't recommend) mouse with my left hand. Handwriting is still difficult because of the gripping action with the thumb when holding a pen/pencil. I still struggle dealing with doing the dishes and loading the dishwasher. Again - the gripping action that involves the thumb. (My diagnosis ... that part of the healing process will probably NEVER heal but don't tell Mike. Giggling

All in all the time off has given me time to actually read some of my art books and explore the concepts and designs. I have lots of pages filled in my inspiration notebook with literal scribbles of thoughts and ideas to develop further into patchwork pieces and quilting designs. So watch for new things coming down the pike.

I've learned to slow down a bit and to literally smell the roses. In an instant how quickly life can change. I have vowed to take nothing for granted and make the most of every day.
