WINTER 2012 PAGE HEADER

Welcome to Mountaintop Quilting Studio

This is where you find me exploring a variety of creative adventures mostly about but not limited to quilting. I'm a firm believer that one increases their creativity by being open to and playing with a variety of cretative endeavors ... at least that my excuse for today. Enjoy your sourjourn through my studio playroom. May you find encouragement and inspiration, and on occassion, a little pin-prick that may be thought-provoking or spark your imagination. Thank you for stopping by.

    GETTING READY FOR GA

    FLWER SAMPLER

The clock is ticking and time is winding down. Just a few short days left until we all gather in Georgia for our Statler workshops. Things have been humming in the studio as I get samples and class lesson plans together.

1118 POSIES BLOCK is one of my new quilting designs I've been working on. The top is an embroidered sampler of alternating flower blocks and scrappy nine patch blocks - one I completed almost 15 years ago. I used a light tea stain to age the fabric. I'm not sure I would do that today with all of the "new" information we have regarding the acids in the tea actually shortening the life/durability of the fabrics. If I were wanting to give the aged look to a quilt top today I would be more likely to use an actual commercial fabric dye product of an appropriate color.

1118 POSIES BLOCKI like the way the quilted crosshatching pattern looks across the embroidery work. It doesn't interfere or damage the integrity of the embroidered designs. Enjoy the sneak preview of my new block design based on the Posies Collection stitched out. I like the way the posie flowers in the quilting block design fit with the 30's fabrics and the embroidered motifs keeping the style consistent. I also like the way the quilt design fills the block space completely.

I've kept my nose to the grindstone pretty consistently over the last week trying to get my catalog of designs updated and complete with all the new designs. Watch for page downloads in the store. You'll want to print an updated catalog to use as a reference tool for customer browsing.

    • What a great pattern for a 9-patch! I really like the contrast between the circles in the corners and the other design. Go Kay!
