Welcome to Mountaintop Quilting Studio

This is where you find me exploring a variety of creative adventures mostly about but not limited to quilting. I'm a firm believer that one increases their creativity by being open to and playing with a variety of cretative endeavors ... at least that my excuse for today. Enjoy your sourjourn through my studio playroom. May you find encouragement and inspiration, and on occassion, a little pin-prick that may be thought-provoking or spark your imagination. Thank you for stopping by.

    DESIGN CHALLENGE WRAP UP

    spring break 2010

Our March Design Challenge is almost finished ... just a few more days to take advantage of the $1 pattern special on 1402 Hearts A Flutter Block 2. Remember me telling you how easily it could be divided for additional design play in Creative Studio? All you have to do is choose Divide Pattern when you right click on the block and then place the cursor over the inside center point of the top of the heart right between the two curves and click. The block will break exactly in half and you're ready to play.

One of the designs I played with involved adding a p2p line to close up the block making it into a triangle unit. I also played with some rotation, some circular array, and came up with a pretty neat frame block. I would love to see what some of you come up with. To share your ideas, do a screen capture, crop the image to show just the block unit play and tell us what you did.

Last week had to be one of the craziest weeks in history - at least my recent history. I came back from spending Spring Break with Eryn in Alabama just in time to jump in the car just ten hours later to run down to Boston for some time with Toby and Andrea and the twins ... and deliver Sock Monkey to the toy basket. He looks so much better now that he has eyes. Colin and Lucy are really drawn to the soft animal toys that have distinctive facial features.

Monday morning is set aside as dedicated blog writing  and project design time. However, when I got back from Boston the plan was not to be. ... sigh ... This was a week of intermittent power and internet, trips to the hardward store for supplies, and all kinds of little details with finishing up the kitchen/dining room construction. (I'll post more about that later this week ... I'm so excited because the kitchen looks soooooo good and I can finally cook real meals again!)

So anyway, this will be a week of catching up on the news.

Eryn and I had the best time over break watching all kinds of movies, working on her star hexagon quilt design planning out fabric placement and just how to do the half stars. She is hand paper-piecing again this time with the 1" hexagons. You'll want to watch for posts in the future as she finishes up the top and we start working on the quilting design.

Another of our favorite activities during our visits is to try new recipes and I get to taste all the new ones she's developed since my last visit. Her recipe for ratatouille is mouth-watering, and hopefully you've already had a chance to try her Garlic Herbed Chicken Goodness dish.
