    A FUN SURPRISE

     queen annes lace black

Imagine my surprise while sitting at my kitchen island thumbing through the latest quilting catalog as I was eating lunch. I turned to the next page and saw one of my quilting patchwork patterns Queen Annes Lace featured with a big splashy NEW sticker! How fun ...

I created this pattern as a part of a collection of patterns for beginners. So many of the patchwork patterns on the market begin to look the same with large squares of fabric, long strips sewn together, or random geometric shapes ... skewed squares, strips, or triangles ... sewn together haphazardly with the pattern being touted as a quilting masterpiece ... quick, easy, and completed in no time at all. I wanted something different.

How to encourage and inspire new quilters? How to honor the legacy and tradition of patchwork quilting? How to capture the joy of the process in learning to quilt with precision as skills and techniqes are refined and mastered while creating beautiful quilts for families to use in every day life. These were the questions, the inspiration, the driving force and guiding light in my creating the collection of quilting patchwork patterns from which Queen Annes Lace is found. The complete collection  of seven different was included in a book available from Easy Made which is no longer in print called Block That Connect.

One of the best parts about the Queen Annes Lace pattern is the no-fail pieced border. Left-over half square triangles from piecing the body of the quilt are used to piece the border strips as I show you how to create a built-in fudge factor so all the patches line up creating a one-of a kind beautiful border.

I love playing with my design software (Electric Quilt) using different fabrics to create different looks with the same pattern. The pattern includes 3 different sizes. Want to experiment with some of the techniques? Click HERE for a tablemat size pattern for free.
