So ... at the risk of opening a potentially touchy subject - How do your mornings go?

I'm one of those people who doesn't have time for sleep. There are just too many exciting things happening out there in the world and I don't want to miss out on any of them. When I get up in the morning I'm so excited about all the possibilities and the potential of the day. I'm full of questions about the plans for the day everyone in the family might have, and I have tons to "share" about stuff I've been thinking about and learning while they were sleeping the night away. As my daughter Eryn says ... it can be a bit intense.

And so, I've learned over the years to tone it down and keep my enthusiasms for the bright new day to myself. Most people have their family catch-up time over the dinner table, but when I retired Mike and I made breakfast our together meal for the day due to his work schedule. It wasn't long before he shared with me those most loving words:

"You know last year," ... he retired a year before I did ... "I had breakfast in a nice quiet house - just me and my cereal and the paper."

That was all he said ... and then went back to reading his paper and eating his cereal.

Hmmmm ... so I "trained" him to read the comics first and then give me that section because that was where the crossword puzzle was located, and we began our morning ritual: he with his cereal and morning paper ... me with my coffee, banana and almonds and the daily crossword with sprinkles of quiet simple conversation dropped in here and there as he shared something he found interesting or I searched for a 6 letter word meaning ....

But now things are different. Mike is still living on the West Coast until we sell our home in Oregon and I'm here in Western Massachusetts by myself ... and I can be as rowdy in the morning as I want! LOL But I've found I like that quiet contemplative thinking time in the morning. The crosswords aren't the same by myself and I save them up for breakfast times during Mike's visits. So, I have a new morning routine ...

... coffee, almonds and banana ... and catching up with old favorites in the blogworld and finding new blogs. Sometimes I just hop from one to the next following the lead of the author's favorites links which today led me to this site: The Blog Guidebook It's like a yellow-pages plus of the blog world with all kinds of blogs listed by category as well as tips for blogger, contests, surveys, and events ... lots happening there. I suggest you check it out, and, now ... back to my coffee, banana, and almonds, and more inspiration out there in blogland.
