Welcome to Mountaintop Quilting Studio

This is where you find me exploring a variety of creative adventures mostly about but not limited to quilting. I'm a firm believer that one increases their creativity by being open to and playing with a variety of cretative endeavors ... at least that my excuse for today. Enjoy your sourjourn through my studio playroom. May you find encouragement and inspiration, and on occassion, a little pin-prick that may be thought-provoking or spark your imagination. Thank you for stopping by.

    JUANITAS BIG STAR

Not one, but two qults off the longarm quilting machine this week. The first one was pieced by my good friend Juanita. She made this comfy cozy flannel quilt for her grandsons. I used an edge-to-edge pattern that you can find in the Mountaintop Studio Store called 1375 Loopy Stars. And the best part ... it's FREE! Yeah, a win-win for everyone.

I don't know about the rest of you Statler owners out there but I think using the "repeat patterns" mode for doing an edge-to-edge design is just about the best thing since sliced bread. BUT ... every time I use this function I have to search around through all my notes to remember how to do it. Thank goodness I have the DVD set from Al to help me remind me all of the steps.

I think the biggest challenge for me is to remember where to find the "relocate to two points" option is located in the various menus. I vowed this time to create a studio poster to use as a reference point for the process. Keep watching for that handy helper tool to appear one of these days.

The second quilt to come off the machine this week was pieced by a new friend Sue. She and I met at a guild meeting in Great Barrington. Sue will be offering this quilt up for sale in the future so her aim was to keep total costs down as much as possible. Don't you just love a great scrappy black/white/and red quilt? So very striking and gender neutral.

I used one of my favorite old stand-by edge-to-edge patterns designed by my good friend Deb Geissler ... Deb's Swirls. Deb has two versions of this pattern so you can decide which gives you a balanced quilting pattern without distortion. I've used this pattern so many times on so many quilts, both mine and customer quilts. The pattern creates great motion across the top of a quilt as well as giving texture without distracting from the piecing.
