Welcome to Mountaintop Quilting Studio

This is where you find me exploring a variety of creative adventures mostly about but not limited to quilting. I'm a firm believer that one increases their creativity by being open to and playing with a variety of cretative endeavors ... at least that my excuse for today. Enjoy your sourjourn through my studio playroom. May you find encouragement and inspiration, and on occassion, a little pin-prick that may be thought-provoking or spark your imagination. Thank you for stopping by.

    FULL SNOW MOON DREAMBOARD

    FULL SNOW MOON DREAMBOARD

One of the things I really enjoy about living in the Berkshires is how many more clear night skies we have than I experienced living in Oregon in the Portland metropolitan area. The reasons for this are … unlike the cloudy rainy Pacific Northwest, we are much drier even though we have LOTS of snow here in Western Massachusetts, and thus, less cloudy skies; and secondly, I'm a minimum hour to two hour drive to a large city so I don't have the night sky being lit up with all the city lights. So you see, my night sky views include lots of stars, great view of the Milky Way, and the most beautiful full moon views that light up the whole mountainside in the dead of night.

I've been following Jamie Ridler's website over the last couple of months. She encourages readers with a couple of challenges each month: wish-casting and creating Full Moon Dreamboards. I decided to put some dreamboard energy out to the cosmos in the hopes our home in Oregon might sell a little more quickly. There are several other dreams and thought ponderings included on the dreamboard, but selling the house is the main one for now. And, I appreciate any spiritual support and energy of this big dream you can send our way.

This project gave me the opportunity to explore a different style of digital collage than most of my projects. Searching for all the different elements was fun as I combed through all my kits with "new" eyes. A full listing of the supplies used for this project can be found HERE at Scrapbook Graphics. I also practiced with several of the different filters and layer options to create a more realistic "bump" in the tape as it was attached to the collage strata. This was a technique recently shared with Art Journal Caravaners by Tangie Baxter. I'm always playing with my shadowing technique to make them be more realistic.

Inspiration has been coming from several different points during my creative endeavors lately:

    • Quote: Believe you can and you're halfway there.  Theodore Roosevelt
    • Kitchen: a dish that's a staple on most of your weekly menus I'll bet, but I've never made and I'm going to try this weekend … Chicken Enchiladas
    • Friends: Sindy, a new quilting friend and I have been exploring design possibilites and applique construction techniques for a project she's working on. It's fun to have a friend with which to bounce art quilt ideas around.
    • Music:  I've been listening to my Zen playlist this week while putting the finishing touches on my classes for the upcoming retreat in Georgia. This one helps keep the blood pressure down and the creative juices flowing the best these days.
