    FEATHER SURPRISES ABOUND

1476 FEATHER SURPRISE CORNER BLOCKAn email with triumphant shouts of joy and a request came into my inbox yesterday afternoon. Olga played with her Feather Surprise pattern in Creative Studio but now she needs a corner block with feathers going out rather than in as they are in 1471 FEATHER SURPRISE BORDER CORNER.

So after I finished the project I was working on, I began to play with feathers again. What a little gem this corner block has turned out to be. I designed 1476 FEATHER CORNER BLOCK as a square  unit to fit in the corner of either of the border blocks ... 1470 FEATHER SURPRISE BORDER 2 or 1460 FEATHER SURPRISE BORDER 1 (You will need to flip Border 1 to create your full border unit.)

Are you ready to do a little bit of design play with Creative Studio today? You'll be practicing rotations, flipping, and nudging. Let's see if you can create all of the pattern variations with just one little unit. Have fun and let me know how it goes for you. This is what I came up with until I cried "Uncle" and headed to bed.

The corner can go in or out. And then with 1460 Border 1 ...

But the prettiest in my opinion is the blocks that happen when you do a simple roataion using one corner as the center to create the first block. Then rotate around the opposite corner to create the second block.

Remember to save these new variations ... derivative patterns in your personal pattern library by exporting as a CSQ file so you can use them again and again. And please remember, no sharing with your friends.

Leave a note in the comment box as to how your designing fun went for you today and of course, I always love getting pictures of the quilts you finish using patterns from Mountaintop Quilting. You can get 1476 FEATHER SURPRISE at a special discounted introductory price this week only for $10. Click HERE to go to the product page and add it to your cart.
