STONEHENGE SKINS
Posted by mountaintopquilting on Tuesday, March 8th, 2011
It's time for the piecing phase of my business to kick in now and I get to start with creating the quilt pattern I designed for a collection from the Northcott fabric company designed by Sunshine Cottage called Stonehenge Skins.
This yummy bundle of fabrics starts with the gorgeous Stonehenge basics in yellow and blue tones. Added to that are fun animal skin textures over the stone background. Talk about creating visual interest. I can hardly wait to finish each block to see how the Stonehenge basics mix with all the different blending of colors you can find in just a half yard of fabric. And the skin prints add a perfect mix of movement as your eye follows the leathery snake skin print thorugh the geese patches landing on the cheetah print in the center of each block. I only have 120 flying geese units to make for this quilt. I'm using Deb Tucker's Wing Clipper ruler to increase my precision and to speed up the process of piecing that many geese.
I just started cutting today and am piecing while watching my favorite tv shows this evening. I'll keep you posted as more of the blocks are finished and start to go up on the design wall. In the meantime, quilting patterns are running rampant through my head. Oh the possibilities. This quilt could sparkle and shine with some glitzy thread but as many of you know, I'm not a big experimenter with thread. I might have to see how some King Tut varigate lays across the fabrics. But, plenty of time before I need to be ready to load this one on the quilting machine. Back to my piecing ... in the meantime ...
... be bold ...
... be brave ...
... make and share the music of your soul ...
