INSPIRATION FROM ICE

Ooooooh ... the weather outside is ... melting ...
Now that song will be stuck in your head all day, won't it. But we can't deny it ... it's melting and thawing and melting and thawing and every day there is a little less snow and the icicles are a little shorter.
I've never had icicle litter on the ground to deal with before. What a sight with all these shards of ice some large, some small littering the ground below trees and under the eaves. I continue to find inspiration and delight in the new things to see every day and I'm sure the natives "Dale-ians" think I'm the crazy lady next door as I greet each morning and afternoon walk camera in hand searching for a new and interesting sight to capture "on film."
First of all I was saddened when I saw half of this tree bent in half near to the breaking point with the weight of the ice. But then I noticed these interesting "ice lines" on the half of the tree that was still standing upright. What an interesting study in repetition and line direction.
I love how the lines begin their march in the upper left of the photo straight as an arrow from top to bottom and then begin to rotate as they travel down the side of the tree. I wonder if those rotated icicles formed that way due to wind or if they were straight as they formed and the branch bent due to their weight causing them to rotate like that.
Did you notice the section of icicles in the upper middle section of the photo? Those lines remind me of a game we all used to play called "pick-up-sticks." And then look at these icicle lines with variations in thickness, length, and direction in contrast to the solid rhythmic marching line pattern created by the house siding in the background.
Hmmmm ... design fodder for patchwork and freemotion background fill.
... be bold ...
... be brave ...
... make and share the music of your soul ...
... and ...
...may your eyes be open to the inspiration that surrounds you
in your day-to-day travels through life ...
