    MMAG 2001: BLOCK CORNER UNITS

Posted by mountaintopquilting on Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

mmag 2011 block corner unit Time for the next installment in this pattern. Are you ready? How is the cutting going? Be sure to drop me an email if you have any questions.

After you cut your strips you will need your Omnigrid 96 ruler for cutting the triangles from the 4.5" strips. Many of you may have this ruler and can't remember how or haven't used it in a while. Let's pull it out, dust it off and take a mini refresher course. I like to use this ruler because it allows me to make the most efficient use of my fabric and my time by allowing me to cut the patches I need to make half square triangles from common sized strips I can usually find in my stash. Every scrappy quilter should have one of these rulers or one that does the same thing in their collection of rulers.

The most important thing to remember about the Omni 96 is that the markings indicate the finished size of the half square triangle. Our block corner units finish at 4" so you'll need to line up the 4" line with the edge of the strip. You'll notice that a little bit of the triangle extends beyond the strip. Not to worry, that would have been a "dog-ear" you would have trimmed away later to eliminate bulk as you assemble the block.

Maybe when you take a look at this picture my ramblings will make more sense.

And now, let's get to the instruction sheet for this step. You'll start with the cutting and then begin piecing the block corner units. You will need four units for each block. Hope you're having fun and staying relaxed during this holiday season.

    • Bearded Magic. This is from way out in left field but came to me when I saw the parts of the white circles with the little triangle "mouths."
